Damage-free removal

Reuse, resell, recycle

1. Prepare your soil

Preparing your soil is the critical first step to get the strongest early growth and the quickest possible return.

2. Train, protect, and shelter

Use the tool supplied to assemble in the shed and carry to the vineyard. No string or stake is needed.

Secure the top of the guard to the wire with the top clip provided.

If you have uneven soil, our M-clip compensates for high or low spots to ensure the guard is scured to the wire.

To secure the bottom, an extra 35mm is included on the guard to bury into the soil.

With the top and bottom of the guard secured, your vines are now safe from herbicide, wind blast, and grazing animals.

3. Save 160 hours of labour per hectare

Growth inside the guard encourages growth of the main shoot while suppressing lateral shoot growth.

Vines inside GroGuards use much less water. It is important not to overwater or put dripper tubes inside the guard.

Little or no labour is needed until the vine exits the guard.

4. Training onto the wire made easy

GroGuard’s 10” ‘Deep V’ top design encourages bilateral growth, which makes training onto the wire easy.

Vines inside GroGuards use much less water. It is important not to overwater or put dripper tubes inside the guard.

Once the vine reaches the top of the guard, the bilateral shoots can be secured to the cordon wire.

5. Easy to remove without damage

The guards should stay on until there are at least eight fully expanded leaves out of the guard.

The guards can be left on over winter. If there is to be a second planting, they can be left on until the next spring and be directly transferred to the new vines.

GroGuard’s Zip-Safe design is easy to peel apart, unzip, and reseal without any damage to the vine or guard.

6. Reduce, resell, recycle

GroGuard is a strong advocate of re-use, selling-on, and recycling.

Recycling is the most economical way to remove old GroGuards from your site.

If you are re-using or have bought second-hand guards, additional sealing tools are supplied free of charge.

GroGuards are designed to be recycled - they are 100% PP5 and contain no metal parts.
